Influenced as a child by her father's oil paintings and
her summers in the Northern Ontario wilderness, Libby's art reflects her
love of peaceful surroundings. In her own search for serenity, Libby has
come to express her philosophy in simplified terms in her representational
watercolours.
A renaissance artist she has explored many media; clay
sculpture, lace porcelain work, china painting, quilting, smocking, poetry
writing, pastels, oil painting, watercolours and large acrylic murals.
Exposed to and inspired by the mist and light of the
rugged West Coast Libby has interwoven these textures into her art.
Exploring the magical and unpredictable interaction between water, paper and
transparent paint is what she enjoys most; and her recent exposure to
Mexican flavours, tempo and rhythm have inspired her to pursue new
directions in manipulating tone and colour.
A student of many well-known artists such as Allan
Edwards, Jack Avison, Harry Heine, Allen Wylie, Brian Johnson, Evelyn Boren,
Libby has also attended the Federation of Canadian Artists' annual Seminars.
Past President of the Salt Spring Island Painters' Guild,
and President of the Board of the Alliance of Salt Spring Artists, she
now teaches privately in her own Seaside Studio on Salt Spring Island and in
the winters in Bucerias, Mexico.
Libby has taught and exhibited in Ontario, Manitoba,
British Columbia and Mexico, and her works are owned by private and
corporate collectors throughout North America, Mexico, Europe, Hong Kong and
Japan. |
