SUSAN HAIGH was born on Salt Spring Island and has always lived close to nature.  Working in oils or acrylic on canvas or board, she paints vibrant florals from reference photographs she has taken in the more colourful seasons.  She aims to celebrate some of nature's ingenious creations in a way that catches the attention of people who are often too busy to notice the fine details of plant life.  Having toiled in many a garden, Susan has been continually surprised by the range of colours and variety of forms taken on by different plants.  Textures and patterns abound, from the centre of a tiny flower to the broad view of a whole garden.  Mimicking the bold designs of nature, Susan's canvases echo the excitement and relentless energy of all life.

Susan Haigh studied at the Victoria College of Art from 1983 to 1985.  She has taken part in many group exhibitions on Salt Spring Island, Vancouver Island and in Vancouver.  Each May of 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2003 she presented a solo show of paintings in her garden, placing the often larger than life flowers and leaves back in their natural surroundings.  In 2004 her work was seen in eight different shows.  2005 she presented 'Florabundance' a solo show at ArtSpring in Ganges where, with the assistance of a local nursery, she brought a garden into the gallery.  December 2005, she took part in two shows in Victoria, a three women show at Lighthouse Gallery and an eight artist show at the Gallery at the Mac.  July 2006 she presented '50/50' a solo show where 50% of the proceeds went to charity.

Susan Haigh's art can be found in private collections in Canada, USA, Germany and New Zealand.
