Judith has lived and studied in Ottawa, Toronto, Los Angeles and now on the west coast. Fascinated by light, colour and pattern she won an Ontario Craft Council Award for her batik early in her career.
She has been in art related fields for the past thirty years, teaching fabric design, operating a successful art business and gallery. Since her move to Salt Spring in 1988 she has painted full time in watercolour, acrylic and mixed media.
Judith is a member of the Salt Spring Painters' Guild, Alliance of Salt Spring Artists, the North West Watercolour Society and the Federation of Canadian Artists. Her paintings have been selected in many juried shows in Canada and the United States and hang in numerous private collections internationally. This award winning artist is represented on Salt Spring Island by Thunderbird Gallery.
She defines each painting as a journey through time, woven with layers of complexity and illusion…
DINNER DANCE SERIES: "My love of dancing and a fascination with the visual aspect of food preparation and presentation combine in this dynamic and colourful series. On another level this series expresses the my reaction to the expectation for the female to fill all roles with competence and grace." STILL LIFE SERIES: "In designing the pattern of light, I frequently incorporate geometric shapes, doors, frames, mirrors and windows to portray society's imposition of structure to constrain and contain all living things." ABSTRACTED REALITY SERIES: "Often I start with an image and then encourage it into abstraction." ABSTRACT: "Sometimes I begin a painting with no image in mind and let it talk to me as I play with paint and paper." FIGURATIVE SERIES: "My focus is the human figure as it relates as an overlay to the time and space it occupies." SCENE SERIES: "I love the west coast--the ocean, the mountains and the moody weather."
