GAIL SIBLEY was born and raised in Jamaica. Following a final two years of secondary education in England, she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at the University of Manitoba. Graduate studies followed at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario where Gail achieved her Masters of Arts (Art History). After seven years in Toronto, she moved out west, settling on Salt Spring Island in 1994.
Following academic pursuits, she returned to artistic creation and soon discovered her primary medium--pastels. After gaining entrance as an Associate Member to the prestigious Pastel Society of America (PSA), she diligently submitting her work for jury, and in 2002, Gail was awarded Signature Membership in the PSA and is now one of only about 700 such members worldwide. Here in Canada, Gail is a Signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA), achieved after successfully entering 8 successive juried FCA shows in a single year.
Gail has participated in a number of group shows including the recent: "Variations by 3 Women" at Mutual Gallery, Jamaica, "A Sibley Affair Act II" held at the Kennedy Gallery in Grand Cayman, and "Passion for Pastels" hosted by the Federation Gallery on Granville Island, Vancouver. Additionally, one of Gail's pastels was accepted into the 2002 bi-annual exhibition held by the International Association of Pastel Artists.
Gail's works are in private and corporate collections worldwide. One of her pastels, "Baders Beach," is featured in the October/November 2004 issue of International Artist magazine under "International Showcase of Master Pastel Painters."
Gail continues to work in pastels both plein-air and in the studio. She is represented by Marshall Clark Gallery in White Rock. On Salt Spring Island, her work may be viewed at her studio by appointment.
