This ufo research and contactee group of the highest integrity was begun by Don Elkins, a physics and engineering professor, commercial airline pilot, co-founder of the Mantell-Elkins Flight School (with Capt. Thomas Mantell (ret.), who crashed in 1947 while scrambled to chase a ufo over Ft. Knox), and 30-year ufo researcher; Carla Rueckert, a librarian and Elkins' long-time fellow researcher; and James McCarty, a researcher in metaphysics. They publish a quarterly newsletter, Lightlines, available by donation (printing costs alone are about $1.50 per issue), the five volume set of The RA Material, listed below, Secrets of the Ufo, The Channeling Handbook, The Wanderers' Handbook, and others, as well as several tapes, such as Messages from the Ufo, The Spiritual Significance of Ufos and Joy. I can send free to interested persons the digital files of The Ra Material - The Law of One. L/L Research also has the first three chapters of all their books on their site.

"How Can I Help?"
by Jody Boyne
The Seva Foundation, begun by Ram Dass (Harvard Psychologist Richard
Alpert, Ph.D), is an international, non-profit foundation dedicated to
service to others in a variety of ways.
By His
Grace: A Devotee's Story
Obviously, there are an infinite variety of ways to be of help in this world. However, the Wanderer's lesson also seems to be that of balancing wisdom and compassion.
Compassion teaches us to be helpful. Wisdom teaches when and how, including appropriate non-action. Sometimes trying too hard to be helpful isn't helpful! And as a friend says, "We're human beings, not human doings!"
Ram Dass' book How Can I Help? is a wonderful collection of stories about service and being helpful. As Ram Dass writes, one 'dies' into service, transforming all impermanent aspects of personality.
Buddhism's Bodhisattva Vow to 'forego Nirvana until all beings are enlightened' subtly contains a koan: "Until I see all beings as enlightened, I am not enlightened." Stated in the positive, "As I see all beings as enlightened, I am enlightened." Or most simply, "All beings are enlightened (have Buddha nature)." With this perspective, distinctions between individuals are transcended, and 'helping' becomes simply 'being' our true nature. As Chuang-tzu the Taoist sage wrote toward the end of his life, "To search for principles was in error. My own nature is sufficient."
For wanderers, the process of awakening to our true nature is the same process that all beings and planets undergo, including earth at this time. In this sense, our awakening is our work and service, and our service is our awakening, as it is for all beings. This process of a wanderer remembering their origins elsewhere may well carry through much of an earth lifetime, and higher density abilities may never manifest fully in 3rd density, while the larger process of awakening, as in enlightenment, the graduation from 7th density into the next octave, takes many many lives for all beings, and in a sense, is simply part of the never-ending exploration and expression of the infinite Creator and creation.
Each wanderer also brings individual capacities for service which they will attempt to discover and find opportunities to offer. This is not always easy in the highly contentious, politicized and commerce-oriented working world of 3rd density Earth! Many old institutional structures are crumbling and new ones are springing up. As one organizational psychologist consultant said of his work with old-order, 3rd density businesses, "Most of my work is hospice." I would add that our work is both hospice and midwifery, as the old earth dies and the new earth is born.
Such accounts always strike me... both my son and i were told to let the other kids answer questions in class, and found ways to keep our minds alive despite the limitations of teachers and schools... developing active imaginations and seeing the levels and metacontext of all class subjects, so as not to be bored by the level of the presented material... learning to play with it all, even while sitting still at a desk... one of my father's favorite quotes, from Blaise Pascal, the mathematician, "All man's troubles come from being unable to sit still in a room" - the practice of meditation, facing and transcending self, basically...
And what do you do when you realize you can do anything, yet society is not ready for 'anything'? this is the dilemma of wanderers... it's like the way we feel as adults when we go into a children's classroom and the chairs are all too small... I've been asked why i don't write books or cure cancer... this is the perennial patience of a parent, teacher or therapist - you can't simply tell children, students or patients what's what, but have to respond according to their developmental stage... wanderers are not here to give the answers or solve others' problems, but to help others learn how to learn, like any good parent, teacher, therapist, librarian :,
You are all in this effort, keep up the good work...
Want to know the easiest way to tell who is a Wanderer? Simply ask who's worrying about "finding my purpose on Earth." As I continue my own wandering travels around the country, I'm continually meeting people who are concerned with figuring out "why I'm here." They often feel great anxiety as they struggle to uncover some kind of preordained path or social role, and the question they usually ask is this: "What am I supposed to be doing?"
Honestly, I tell them I don't know if they're supposed to be doing anything, and if they are still listening, add that it is this kind of thinking that keeps them from being fulfilled. To settle this matter of purpose, which is truly essential to the life and well-being of Wanderers, you must retrieve the awareness with which you came to Earth--which cannot be done by typical human reasoning. One needs to return to a higher consciousness, a state of purity and simplicity.
The problem is that by looking for a "should" and a "supposed to" we are starting from an incorrect premise, which dooms our conclusions from the start. Better to ask this: "How do you know there is anything you should be doing?"
This needle-and-haystack search is both simplistic and dogmatic. Ra, in The Law of One, Vol. III, offers an essential perspective here.
"It is the aim of Wanderers to serve the entities of this planet in whatever way is requested, and it is also the aim of Wanderers that their vibratory patterns might lighten the planetary vibration as a whole... Specific intentions such as aiding in a situation not yet manifest are not the aim of Wanderers. Light and Love go where they are sought and needed, and their direction is not planned aforetimes." (emphasis added: pp. 74-5)
It seems to me this brings us a lot closer to the Wanderer's mind of purity and self-sacrifice before incarnation. The sentence bears repeating: "Light and Love go where they are sought and needed, and their direction is not planned aforetimes." And this is exactly the mind of a true server: giving what's needed just where it's needed, with no thought of a personal agenda. As in the title of a classic book: How Can I Help?
After explaining the starting point, Ra noted three basic functions of Wanderers, once the incarnative "veil of forgetting" is penetrated (which it may not be, or only partially):
"...each Wanderer has its unique abilities, biases, and specialties... an array of pre-incarnative talents which then may be expressed upon this plane... in addition to the doubling effect of planetary love and light and the basic function of serving as beacon or shepherd." (emphasis added: p. 75)
In short then, Wanderers come to Earth to simply offer love and light--freely, openly, without consideration as to what should or should not be. At the levels of awareness from which cosmic souls emerge before their veiling, the great probability of rendering useful service to the planet and to humanity is quite enough to merit the hazards and trials of direct incarnation (which is like parachuting into hostile territory, armed only with kindness). So what is the grand purpose for which you are here, an unknown visitor from realms beyond conception? Just be kind and helpful.
Esoterically, the radiatory effect of life and light is far more profound than we might imagine. Why is it that great yogis, adepts, and masters of the East stay in their caves, when they profess such universal compassion? Simply because they know how to consciously radiate higher energies by mind, and they understand how thought influences physical reality. Serving the world, a task which seems to imply such onerous burden, really depends on the way we live each day.
